Cumulus clouds, circling birds
Worn-out wood, whispered words
Silvery spheres that we puff
Sticks, seaweed, and other stuff

Dust in the rays coming through glass
Divided attention in algebra class
Scattery sweet flowergirl’s petals
Pollen released from springtime nettles

Hang gliders off cliffs
Fame, and all of its ‘gifts’
Teenagers from folks
Smoke from your smokes

Glowing lanterns on lakes
And too-heavy cakes
Wayward spirits ’n ghosts
Rafts along a seacoast

Rocket’s hot vapor
An airplane of paper
Smoke from a fire
Fog in a shire

Foam on calm waves
Things that we crave
Balloons in the sky
A blue butterfly

Cool ocean breezes
Germs from loud sneezes
Apple-scent from a pie
Mama’s faint lullaby
d r i f t
The earth after quake
The dark at daybreak
A driver – eyes bleary
Unfounded theory

Desert’s fine sands
Noise from bandstands
Friends after fighting
Snow that’s frostbiting
d r i f t
Hot air balloons
Weary platoons
Thin sidewalk cracks
Hobos with sacks

‘Fish’ made o’ jelly
Skunk scent so smelly
Boats without anchor
A large oil tanker

Feathers through air
Popcorn smell at a faire
A swan on the water
A clam-clacking otter

Oatmeal’s steam
A midsummer’s dream
When dozing: one’s cares
Your thoughts, while in prayers
d r i f t
A zepp’lin hovering over the land
A spider’s white web broken off, just a strand
A satellite deep in the darkness of space
But never God’s unending eternal grace
d r i f t
Relationships frayed
A cool spot in the shade
A couple at odds
Not conviction in God
d r i f t
Kites with a tail
A sleeping grey whale
A lone tumbleweed
Us, with God, freed

An eagle on high
A wandering eye
Debris in a shoal
Toward Heaven, one’s soul
d r i f t
The angels, our guides,
The warm light by our sides
The flesh & the bones
Those who cast all those stones…

His word remains strong
Takes us where we belong
His promise is true
He saves me, He saves you
So we will not
